The client approached ProtoBear while developing a new skincare product and wanted to explore what was possible with silicone bristles for cosmetic application. We began with early research and prototyping, designing and testing different bristle geometries and silicone properties to determine what would deliver the desired feel and performance.

During development, the client’s original partner exited the project, and ProtoBear assumed full responsibility for bringing the product to market. This required extensive design refinement and testing to perfect both form and function.

Over multiple prototype cycles, we solved a range of engineering and manufacturing challenges including pressure equalization within the applicator, efficient assembly processes, and electroplating solutions suitable for use with acidic substances. We also worked closely on the product’s aesthetics, dialing in color, coatings, and surface finishes to achieve the right visual appearance and tactile feel.
